About

In extenso is an association for contemporary art in Clermont-Ferrand. Its mission is to disseminate contemporary art through two main activities: exhibitions and publications.

Whether in its physical exhibition space, off-site projects or in the pages of La belle revue – a free, annual contemporary art magazine – the association accompanies artists in order to support and promote their practices on a local and international scale.

By supporting a vast network of art workers, In extenso is committed to defending an engaged and inclusive vision of art. It supports innovative creation and contributes to its recognition. The association targets a wide audience, working in close collaboration with cultural structures in Clermont-Ferrand, as well as nationally and internationally, contributing to the construction of a strong, close-knit cultural network in which the city of Clermont-Ferrand has become the core.

History

In extenso is a contemporary art association founded in 2002 by artists Marc Geneix and Sébastien Maloberti, with the aim of supporting and disseminating the work of artists working locally, nationally and internationally.

The association has a space in the heart of Clermont-Ferrand, where it organises between three and five exhibitions a year. In extenso also organises occasional off-site programming through partnerships with French and international structures.

Since 2005, In extenso has been developing its publishing activities in order to reach audiences beyond its exhibition space. Alongside the occasional publication of exhibition catalogs and artists’ books, its most important editorial project is the publication La belle revue.

Created in 2009, La belle revue is a free, annual print magazine dedicated to contemporary art, distributed in art venues across France, Belgium, and Switzerland. It plays a major role in promoting the cultural influence of the city of Clermont-Ferrand and the Centre-France Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region. It also exists as a website that is updated monthly.

Featuring exhibition reviews, thematic dossiers, original artistic works, artist profiles, and presentations of local organizations, La belle revue aims to support a broad ecosystem of artists, critics, organizations, institutions, and art spaces in Centre-France Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and beyond. It champions rigorous art criticism while also embracing more experimental forms of writing, expressing a commitment to openness, renewal, and dialogue between critical approaches and contemporary literary forms.

Its editorial committee – composed of the In extenso leadership, the association’s board, and local art workers (artists, curators, critics) – collectively determines the editorial direction and content of each issue. The committee also invites other art professionals to contribute to the magazine, fostering a collaborative spirit attentive to local engagement and diversity of perspectives.

Visual Identity

A signature with trembling features is adorned with its most beautiful attire. It dresses up every day with a myriad of ‘charms’ depending on the occasion. A first wardrobe of accessories for everyday life – a ring, a heart, keys; a second for each season; and a last one, an exceptional one, for special occasions.

In extenso’s graphic chart, designed by Traduttore, traditore, reflects the multifaceted identity of our association, and our diverse activities: an exhibition space that disguises itself with each exhibition as well as a range of editorial projects. In extenso is a dynamic and changing place thanks to the artistic proposals that identify it, characterise it and define it.
