Oompah, Tom-tom, Tootle-too & Toot
Gaillard & Claude
2017
Following the exhibition “A Finite Sum” by Gaillard & Claude in 2016, In extenso co-publishes with Établissement d’en face (Brussels) and Les Bains Douches (Alençon) their publication Oompah, Tom-tom, Tootle-too & Toot with Shelter Press.
Oompah, Tom-tom, Tootle-too & Toot follows the story of four orchestra members having an animated conversation during a break in the backstage area of the concert hall Henry le Bœuf in Brussels. Rife with gossip, fights and existential crises, their conversation questions notions of community, authenticity and happiness.
Written by Lili Reynaud-Dewar, the dialogs are illustrated with photographs taken by Kristien Daem. The sculptures depicted in the book are part of a larger corpus, previously exhibited between 2015 and 2016 in “Early development of Calculus” at Établissement d’en face, “A Proper Orchestra is Fun for Everyone! ” at les Bains-Douches and “A Finite Sum” at In extenso.
